Coast to Coast Walk
The following story is from Laura Cameron (in Laura's own words) who walked the Coast to Coast to raise money for the FHLTA. I am sure you will find Laura's story both inspiring and emotional. I have raised some money for the FHLTA because only a few months ago I found out how my Mum died from the newspaper articles which had been written, as my family never mention her. It really has touched me to see in words what my Dad had gone through. I new knew my Mum but I think that is what is so hard to understand, she is never spoken about but thought of everyday, I imagine. I can only think of the fight she must have given to stay a little longer on this beautiful earth and the love my Dad has for her. She died when I was three and my sister four, leaving my Dad, who is a farmer to look after us two rotters. She got ill when she was expecting me, breathless and constantly tired. Tests showed she had blood clots in her lungs but after the treatment for this she suffered heart failure. It was decided to put her on the transplant list and she waited more than two years for a suitable match. The surgeons performed the eight hour operation but she died the Sunday following her heart & lung transplant. Apparently, she developed an infection. She was only 34 years old. I wasn't able to do anything then so I have tried to raise some money to help those who are going through the same pain as my Mum suffered. I walked 195 miles (coast to coast) by myself carrying my tent on my back. I finished on the eighth day, the only day of sunshine (typical English weather). I managed to raise a total of £996.04 for the FHLTA. Below are pictures of Laura at the beginning of her journey at at the finish at Robin Hoods Bay. Please click on each thumbnail for a better view
