Out & About

John Morton

This time two years ago I would never have dreamed that I would be doing what I have just done.   At 10:40 on the 24th June my wife Anne and I started a sponsored bike ride around our local area.

At the starting line we were asked by the Mayor and Mayoress if this was our first charity bike ride and we answered yes, our journey took us through villages, down private tracks, country lanes, a country park and then into the town and back to the water sports centre where we started in total 18 miles in 2 hours and 20 minutes.

We were met at the finish line by the Mayor and Mayoress and asked us why we had entered the bike ride, I told her that I had had a double lung transplant 19 months ago and so we were raising money for Freeman Heart and Lung Transplant Association.   They were amazed that I have been able to do the bike ride after a short time after the transplant.

Since having the transplant my quality of life has increased tremendously, I am able to do the things that I couldn’t do before for so many years and I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to raise some money for such a good cause.
