After a transplant it is sometimes difficult to find an
insurance company who will not only cover you, but do so at a reasonable price.
If you have found a company who are competitive and helpful please send the
information to us so we can build a database that will benefit everyone.
The following companies have been recommended by our
members:-
Update May 2011
Metropolitan Insurance is now Best Forward & Co
- Tel: 0191 262 8872. More details will be availablesoon
Updated December 2009
Manor Insurance, recommended by Janet Long, Graham
Marsh & Ellie Irwin.
A personal message from Ian Mantel who is a director of Manor Insurance:-
"I
formed the business in 1990 and we retain a family feel (or so I like to think).
We deal with three different insurers for persons with pre-existing medical
conditions. Our upper age limit for annual policies is 85 and for single trip
cover 110. We offer long stay cover as well, up to 18 months away for under
65year olds dropping down to no more than 4 months away for those aged 75 plus.
Johnnie Walker
mentioned us on his BBC Radio 2 programme and we have also been highlighted on
BBC2 Working Lunch.
Customers of ours took the
time to write to the BBC One Show recently after they did a piece on
travelling with medical conditions."
Freedom Insurance Services limited have contacted us
and asked to be listed on our website. They specialise in
insurance for people with existing medical conditions and tell us they are
currently working closely with many PCT's and Hospital Trusts. The Sunday Times also recommended them on 18th May 2008.

March 2009 - I tried Freedom and they would not offer me annual multi
trip insurance. Still OK if you want to insure a fortnight's
holiday.
Any feedback would be most welcome.
Ace Insurance - recommended by Laura Houraghan
(Freeman). Laura has had a lung transplant and also suffers from cystic fibrosis.
She sent the Email that I have posted on the feedback page. Maggie Gambrill a heart transplant recipient from Papworth has also used this
company and has given me a contact telephone number:
Ace Insurance offer single trip travel cover up to 3 months before date
of travel and are very helpful on the telephone.
Essential Travel have contacted us and requested a
listing on our website.
Brad Conlin is your contact and he says, "Essential Travel's pre existing
medical conditions insurance offers you full protection for a wide range of
medical conditions
meaning you can enjoy your holiday knowing you're covered".
Maureen Hood has highly recommended this company having failed to receive cover
elsewhere (see feedback).
They have a medical screening department which who can be contacted on 0870
2203937 or via their Healthcheck247
website.
Travelbility have been in touch and asked me to add
their link to our list of insurers:
"We have recently relaunched our Travelbility website
offering travel insurance for the disabled or those with pre-existing medical
conditions and their carers. We think this service would be of great interest
to your members and visitors to your website".
Travelbility would not offer me annual multi trip cover (March 2009).
They also declined single trip cover to the USA but quoted me £156.67 for two
weeks in Spain. Any other feedback?
InsureForAll contacted us and asked to be placed on our list of providers.
They specialise in insurance for the over 65's and existing medical conditions
are covered too. If you give them a try any feedback would be appreciated.
Holiday Services Ltd -

conditions at Normal Rates, especially if your trip is to Europe, Aus or
NZ. Tel No: 01773 - 769406 ( until 8pm ) and Quote Reference MS.
Not much help if you are looking
for annual multi trip cover which includes the USA.
Tesco- Our chairman Barrie Braidford had to arrange some last minute
insurance for a weekend trip to Amsterdam and he got cover (at a price)
immediately.
I have posted his email on the feedback page.

February 2004, for the following list of companies who will give a yes or no in

Update March 2009:
Endsleigh have changed their underwriter to AXA Insurance UK and they would
not renew my cover as per their conditions about pre existing medical
conditions:-
You will not be covered if.........
....."change in treatment (including medication, dosage, surgery, tests,
investigations or diet) in the last 12 months"
Any other feedback would be appreciated.
My fully comprehensive multi trip insurance cost £89.20
(Feb
2008 - Feb 2009)
Medici Travel originallyoffered me, Graham Marsh, world wide
annual multi trip travel cover, including USA and Australia,
after I gave them a detailed account of my heart transplant in 1999 and
subsequent visits to the Freeman, including an annual overnight stay for MOT etc.
They quoted me £205.92 which is more than I have been used to but
cover nonetheless. They do offer single trip travel cover
which would obviously be a lot cheaper.
When I rang back to take out the cover and asked them to
double check everything. I told them that I visit the
Freeman every 6 weeks for a check up and they withdrew the offer.
