Freeman Kids'

My apologies for using the term 'kids', but Freeman Children's Section would not fit easily into the link bars .

The children who have undergone a heart and or heart and lung transplant at The Freeman Hospital get involved in all sorts of sport and games and now have their very own section on our website.

We would like your stories, pictures, jokes, in fact anything you would like to see on the website.   Send it to Janet or Irene and we will do our best to publish very quickly.

A fantastic addition to the website from Irene Hadlington especially for the Freeman Kids.

Add your comments, exchange views or just chat.

Try it out, it's great

News from Irene (April 2008)

As all of you are all aware we are trying to raise £10,000 to boast the Freeman Children's Transplant Funds. Looking forward to more ideas coming in.

We have made a great start, We have kick started our fund raising by holding a charity night this also tied in with Justin Maskell's 3rd anniversary of his transplant. The show was done by a friend and colleague Lisa Barnes who's family do these shows for any charity. "DOLLYWOODS MIMICS"

They supported and ran the show, all money raised on the night going to the Freeman Children's Transplant Team fund to help support the children at the games. We all had a fantastic night.

A BIG thank you to them all, also to all the people that provided the prizes and to the people that came to support the event

Thank you on behalf of the children.

We managed to raise a grand total of £1602.00  which Barclay's will match £ for £ the £1500 so in total we will have a start of £3102

We also have a cheque for £150 from Sarah Evens who's son has done a sponsored swim and raised 150.00 thank you so much for the support

Also we have a lady in Durham Gill, wishing to arrange a coffee morning and would like as many people to participate in this event as possible arranging to have their coffee morning on the same day Friday 25th April. This is a nice way of getting together with friends and family and raising a few £'s at the same time

Thanks for the idea Gill.

We are also arranging Pin Badges to be made, these badges will by designed by the children and the winning design will be made up and sold at a £1 each another Great Idea

Please keep the ideas coming no matter how small they are all great If you need any help or advise please contact me on 07886624166 or by email at irene@fhlta.org.uk

Thank you for your support

Message from  Maria Chebrika
Freeman Children's Team Manager (2006 - 08)

Hi Everyone! My name is Maria Chebrika and I am mum to Connor Shaw, aged 7 years old, who is 3 years post transplant and represents The Freeman Children’s team.

This is our third Transplant Games and the one which Connor said he has enjoyed the most! I think the fact that Sydney from Cbeebies and Pudsey Bear attended might have had something to do with it !!

This year, I was delighted to be appointed Team Manager with Janet Long, Mum of Rebecca (aged 12 yrs old) who has been to the Games many times and won a handful of medals over the years! Together, we organised the paperwork and the kids over the weekend – our team included Linzi Saunders aged 9 years old, Justin Maskell aged 9 years old, Joseph Lambert, aged 8 years old (all attending for the first time!), Gavin Greig aged 14 years old, Laura Finnegan aged 15 years old and of course, Connor and Rebecca.

Although we have a small team of only seven, each team member made every effort to win some medals, get involved and most importantly, have fun!! . The children particularly enjoyed the Transplant Glowbowling, where Linzi's dad, James Saunders won a 1st position medal for the parents! Wow! We also had a fantastic group of brothers and sisters with us who had a great time and supported their transplant siblings extremely well!

During all the excitement of rushing from event to event and being very proud of each and every one of the children, the best part for me personally was meeting new families and making new friends. It was lovely to see the children all getting along really well and strutting their stuff at the Gala Dinner, which was a highlight of the weekend, especially as Pudsey and Sydney were presenting medals and Trophies!  Our Freeman Children’s Transplant Team photograph with Pudsey and Sydney will be a very treasured possession for all the children who attended, and their mums and dads!

Special Thanks to the FHLTA who provided funding to enable us to attend this very special event and also a special mention to Donor Families North and Irene Haddlington (Justin's Grandma) who provided funding for the t-shirts and special trophies especially for our Team. Thank you from all of the children XX
