You are no doubt aware that there is a new car parking regime at the Freeman Hospital and it is causing all sorts of problems for our members. The parking charges are £1.10 per hour or part thereof. Anyone coming in for a 'review' or their MOT will know that this is a ridiculously expensive exercise.
17th April '08 - We received this Email from transplant patient Nick Brown which could be very helpful to many of our members who wish to claim their car parking charges:-
After my last visit to see Dr McComb my
wife phoned (I think, Paul Anderson) who said that if I was claiming travel
allowance I should ask for a form HC5. I cannot remember if
it was from the ward, out patients or the cashiers office.
When paying for the car parking, press the button for a receipt and send it off to the Benefits Agency to claim for the car parking.
I am afraid it was a while ago so I might
have got things mixed up where to get the form. When I come
up in a few weeks for my MOT I will try it out.
I hope this works and it will certainly
help some of us recoup the parking charges.
There is a committee meeting on Monday 28th April and we will have an update on the latest in the saga of car parking charges......
This saga started last year as can be seen by the letters below: We have discussed this at our committee meetings and have already written one letter but felt we should write again expressing our concerns. A copy of the letter sent by Judith Burgess, Hon. secretary is printed below:- 10th July 2007 Dear Mr Brewis Re: Car Parking at Freeman Hospital Further to your letter of 12th April 2007, the committee of the Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association (FHLTA) has met once again to discuss this matter. We are most concerned about the cost, as visiting clinic can mean long waiting times and some of our members are paying £5.50 or more to park their car. We are aware that there are special parking bays for dialysis patients and wondered if the same concession could be made for those attending Cardiac Transplant Outpatients. As I mentioned in my previous letter, not all of our members are eligible for disabled badges. Can I also bring to your attention our concerns about the parking bays immediately outside the Cardiothoracic Department being taken up with Porta-cabins as those of our members that are confined to wheelchairs or have difficulty walking find problems getting from the main car park. I do hope that these problems can be addressed and I look forward to your reply. Yours sincerely Judith Burgess FHLTA Secretary Latest: As a result of Judith's letter she and Barrie Braidford, our chairman, have a meeting with Paul Brewis, Operation Services manager at the Freeman to discuss the problem and hopefully come up with a solution. The meeting is scheduled for the end of August. If there are any other matters you wish the committee to pursue on your behalf please get in touch with Judith.
