Saturday 27th May 2006
Venue: The Centre For Life -
Newcastle.
To celebrate 21 years of
transplants at the Freeman Hospital we held a birthday party in the Centre for
Life, Newcastle. The children had their own party in the afternoon
and we adults enjoyed a meal followed by live music from the Watts 'n' Whiffin
Band into the early hours.
Transplant recipients were
joined by staff from the Freeman, friends and family. Our President
Prof John Dark, MB, FRCS, just had time to deliver his speech before he was
called away to add another member to our growing transplant family.
We were pleased to see Barbara
Harpham and her guests from Heart Research, boogying the night away, as were all
of the other partygoers.
It was a lovely way to celebrate
and at the same time highlight the magnificent work which is carried out by the
whole team at the Freeman hospital.
Our aim to promote, publicise and raise awareness for donor cards and let everyone
know about the benefits of The Gift of Life was well supported by the
local and national media. I even got to appear on TV with
co-ordinator Lynne Holt who has been involved in the FHLTA since the very
beginning in 1985. Lynne made a very good speech as she always does,
as did our chairman Tony Armstrong.
